The cacao we work with is rooted in the Amazon rainforest, grown by Indigenous Asháninka communities in Peru. The Asháninka are one of the largest Indigenous groups of the Amazon, holding a deep ancestral relationship with the land. They cultivate cacao using traditional agroforestry methods, growing it alongside native plants in biodiverse systems that protect the rainforest, nourish the soil, and support ecological balance. Within their culture, cacao is more than a crop, it is medicine, nourishment, and a plant ally used in community, ritual, and connection.

Despite generations of challenge, the Asháninka remain resilient guardians of their land, culture, and wisdom. Through community-led initiatives, they continue to protect both their traditions and the future of the rainforest.
